How to use the calculator

Tap the buttons or type on your keyboard. The answer appears as you type, and pressing = or Enter saves it to the history below. Press Esc to clear and Backspace to delete the last digit. Tap a line in the history to use that answer again.

Basic mode

Add (+), subtract (−), multiply (×) and divide (÷), with brackets and percentages. The percent key works the way most people expect: 500 + 10% gives 550 and 500 − 10% gives 450, while 20% × 300 gives 60.

Scientific mode

• sin, cos, tan and their inverses, in degrees (DEG) or radians (RAD).
• x², xʸ (power, written ^), √ square root and ∛ cube root.
• log (base 10) and ln (natural log), eˣ and 10ˣ.
• n! factorial, 1/x, and the constants π and e.

Calculations follow the normal order: brackets first, then powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. So 2 + 3 × 4 = 14, not 20. If you are not sure, add brackets.

Handy everyday sums

• Discount: price − discount%, for example 2,499 − 15%.
• Splitting a bill: total ÷ number of people.
• Monthly to yearly: amount × 12.
