What are meta tags?

Meta tags are short lines of code in the head of a web page. Visitors do not see them on the page, but search engines and social apps read them. The title and meta description usually become the blue headline and the grey text of your result on Google, so they decide whether people click.

How long should they be?

• Title: about 50–60 characters. Google cuts longer titles by width, so the counter also checks an approximate pixel width.
• Description: about 120–155 characters. Longer text is usually cut with "…".

Tips for local businesses

• Put the main service and the city in the title: "Plumber in G-11 Islamabad – 24/7 Repairs".
• Give every page its own title and description. Repeated titles confuse search engines.
• In the description, add a reason to click: free delivery, open on Sunday, years of experience, a phone number.
• Write for people first. Stuffing keywords makes the result look like spam.

What else is included

The code also adds a canonical link (so search engines know the main address of the page), robots instructions, and Open Graph and Twitter tags so the page shows a proper title, description and picture when shared on WhatsApp, Facebook or X.
